If you've never had a Caprese salad, boy are you missing out on one heck of a tasty and refreshing treat! The name may sound fancy, but it's actually a really simple salad that consists of mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. The ingredients are layered and the colors are a nod to the Italian flag, but we have a version that's designed to look just like the American flag…just in time for Independence Day!
Having a July 4 backyard party is one of our favorite summertime events, and we're always looking for special foods to serve to really make it a night to remember. Of course, there's the good old favorites like hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and cole slaw, but this patriotic salad will definitely have everyone talking. It uses purple potatoes, herbed cheese spread, basil, tomatoes and mozzarella and is loaded with flavor. Yum!
