If you have been to a fair recently, or any restaurant that serves southern style food, chances are you have come across fried pickles. Fried pickles are a southern delicacy that is surprisingly delicious. They are a foolproof snack served as either an appetizer or a side and while it sounds strange to fry up a pickle slice and eat it, it's one of those foods that I say “don't knock it till ya tried it.”
When I heard about this next trend I will admit I raised an eyebrow. With aspiring chefs all over the globe constantly experimenting there is bound to be a handful that comes up with the most off the wall creations and this was one of them. When I was asked to make these I agreed to it because it's so simple but I had my hesitations because while I love to say “don't knock it till ya tried it” I also like to say “if it ain't broke don't fix it.” Needless to say, I ate my words.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Cheetos, finely crushed
- ¾ cup flour
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 cups dill pickles, sliced
- Canola oil, for frying
For the dipping sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon chives
- 1 tablespoon dill
Now let's put it all together.
