Cutting Down on Food Waste- Saving Cut Tomatoes the Proper Way

It has always been challenging to keep a halved tomato fresh. However, this amazing trick works wonders every single time!

Whole tomatoes can be stored in the fridge or at room temperature, depending on how ripe they are. Normally I leave mine out of the fridge prior to use but if you’ve already sliced into one, the fridge is always the best place for them to be. Here’s how to do it right and maximize their freshness.

You start slicing into a large, juicy tomato when you realize you only need a few slices. If you slice it all up now, it might go to waste, so it’s best to store it and save it for later.Instead of reaching for those Zip Lock Baggies and tossing it in the fridge first grab a paper towel and stick the paper towel on the bottom of a storage container. Next, place the open face of the tomato on top of the paper towel and seal the container.

It really is as simple as that and if you eat the tomato within the next two days it will still be good as new. Some suggest that if you are going to be waiting longer than that to use the tomato simply place it in the freezer to keep it fresh.

Finished!

This amazing trick for storing a halved tomato will make sure you never waste another tomato ever again. Have you tried this trick for storing your halved tomatoes yet?
