Discolored Meat: Is It Still Edible

I stood staring into my refrigerator at a package of meat I intended to cook days before. It was one of those weeks where nothing went according to plan and as the school year is drawing to a close I find myself tired of all of the running, so ordering from restaurants has been my (ashamedly expensive) go to as of late.

On Sunday I had taken out a package of red meat to thaw and by Friday it was still staring at me, right where I left it. I don't want to admit that I've often wondered “how long is too long” when it comes to food consumption and expiration dates but like many other busy moms it has happened a time or two. now, I've always erred on the side of caution because I'm well aware of the sicknesses that can ensue from poorly cooked, rather questionable meat but this got me thinking…Is discolored meat still edible?
