The International Coffee Chain Has a Radical Plan to Stand Up to Donald Trump!
When President Donald J. Trump signed his immigration ban that prevented citizens of several Muslim countries from entering the United States, the reaction was swift and strong – both here in the U.S. and around the world. Many people denounced it, and some companies worried how they would manage their international workforce, with some of their employees living or traveling here but technically still citizens of one of the Muslim countries in question.
Not surprisingly, Starbucks promptly announced a plan to not only hire people who are citizens of these countries, but to hire refugees, the very people hurt most by Trump's ban. Starbucks has repeatedly advocated for equality and justice, and this was no exception. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told his partners that the company will hire 10,000 refugees over the next five years, and in the U.S. will focus on hiring people who have worked with U.S. troops.
