The reason powdered sugar is preferred over granulated sugar is because the powdered sugar is needed for the soft texture. If you use granulated sugar it will have a grainy consistency and you'd have to use less than 3 cups. Powdered sugar also gives it a sweeter flavor and allows the color of the frosting to be white.
Ingredients To Gather
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 ½ tps vanilla
1 to 2 tbsp milk
Directions To Follow
-
In a medium bowl, mix powdered sugar and butter with spoon or electric mixer on low speed. Stir in vanilla and 1 tablespoon of the milk.
-
Gradually beat in just enough remaining milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable. Add more milk if too thick and more sugar if too thin.
This amount of frosting should allow you to be able to frost a 13×9 inch cake or a smaller 2 layered cake generously. Have fun making this with kids and trust us, they'll want to lick the bowl and spoon clean. Enjoy!
