This Old-Fashioned Mongolian Beef Recipe Has All Of Our Favorite Ingredients

Here's everything for this savory, spicy, Mongolian beef with broccoli. The sauce is incredibly hot and spicy and really makes this different from any other dish we've tried.

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1/4 c. plus 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 lb. flank steak, cut into strips
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. freshly chopped ginger (peeled) or 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp. hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 c. low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1 head broccoli florets
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Directions To Follow:

Start by heating 1/4-cup oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Toss the beef with corn starch and then cook about 2 minutes on each side or until crispy. When the beef is done, place on a plate and then drain the fat. Next, add 1 tsp. of oil to the skillet, and then add the garlic and ginger and cook for about 1 minute or until the mixture is fragrant. Next, add the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and water and bring to a simmer, and let thicken for about 4 to 5 minutes before adding the broccoli. Cover and cook for about 3 minutes or until the broccoli is tender, and then add the beef back to the skillet and stir until it's coated in the sauce. Finally, garnish with sesame seeds and serve over rice.

Finished!

This Mongolian beef is even more delicious than it sounds. This is the main course we turn to when we really want something hot and spicy, and we just love that it's pretty much a meal in itself thanks to the broccoli and rice.

Yum!
