Summer time is here and that means to break out the tongs, apron and get that BBQ grillin! No backyard barbecue is complete without the use of onions – every single time you cook there is at least one bulb on the fire roasting and leaving a delicious smell.
This recipe takes grilling to a whole new level because instead of making a regular beef patty you are stuffing it inside an onion.
I am not sure what makes this so tasty and addicting… maybe it is the beef patty that is marinated with a delicious mixture of Worcestershire, parsley and brown sugar or the onion that caramelizes everything together. Either way… once you try this you are never going to make regular hamburgers again.
Take your back yard barbecuing recipes to a whole new level and make something revolutionary that will have your neighbors praising your grill skills.

You can either throw this in the oven or you can roast it on the BBQ – The onion holds everything together and marinates in flavor.
Let's Get Started…
Your Shopping List…
- 2 yellow onions
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/4 cup onions, diced
- 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup mushrooms, chopped
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. spicy ketchup
- 1 tsp. soy sauce
- 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup Panko bread crumbs
The Step-By-Step Instructions…
- Slice up the onions, leaving the biggest outside parts whole.
- Mix the ground beef with diced onions, mushrooms, brown sugar, parsley and breadcrumbs.
- Add in all the condiments.
- Cover a hefty handful of meatball mixture with the larger onion slices, then wrap the whole thing in bacon.
- Bake at 425 °F for 40 minutes.
Finished!
You can also throw these on the BBQ if you want. I recommend grilling them for half an hour. Put some foil down so the onion does not get charred.

I tried this, but it did not turn out too good…
I remember my first Christmas in San Jose. Cal. It was close to 70deg and we decided to BBQ. The phone rang and it was my best friend calling from Chicago….
“What’s up man?’
We’re barbecuing
“You’re what?”
BBQng
“It’s -35 here in Chicago”
He hung up on me…
Sounds like he’s still upset about living in the wrong place. LOL.
