Smoothies
My favorite option of all time is a freshly blended smoothie. There is nothing more satisfying to me than throwing a bunch of nutritious foods into a blender, pushing a button, and watching it become my breakfast. Usually they taste so delicious and are so easy to consume, that I have it finished by the time I get to work, barely noticing the royal treatment I just gave my body. I stay full until lunch, get a good dose of fruits and veggies, and even sneak in some superfoods.
For the perfect smoothie, first start with a base. I use part almond milk, part water. Experiment with different milks such as hemp, oat, or soy milk. Then add in your ice.
Next you add in fruit. I almost always use a banana for a creamy texture, and banana also balances the flavor well, especially if you decide to add in some greens. Other fruits that are great to use include: Mango, berries, apples, pineapple, and oranges.
At this point, blend it up so you have a good base. Then, add a handful of greens such as spinach or kale. You will not taste the greens much, so this is a great way to sneak in a serving of veggies in your diet.
A scoop of protein powder is good to add to keep you full. You can also add in a ¼ cup or so of dry oats, which gives you fiber. From here, you can throw in any number of healthy superfoods to top it off, such as a scoop of chia seeds, flax meal, hemp seeds, ect. I also enjoy adding a scoop of nut butter or yogurt for a bit more creaminess.
I suggest having a section of your cabinet and fridge where you keep all of your smoothie stuff. Then, in the AM you can just throw it all in the blender, even half-asleep, and have yourself a healthy breakfast on the go within minutes.
Do you have kids? Well, we guarantee that they will absolutely love this! It's easy, fast and sweet (but healthy). Page three has the information you need…
