
Overnight Oats
Most people don’t realize that oatmeal does not need to be hot to be eaten. I always hated the hot mushy texture of oatmeal, but once I discovered overnight oats, I found one of my favorite breakfasts. When you soak oats overnight, they become soft and edible, without being mushy and hot. Also, they soak in the flavors of your choice all night in the fridge. I love sweets, and I finally figured out how I can have dessert for breakfast, but in a healthy way.
Get ¾ – 1 cup of oats and pour in your liquid until they are covered by about ½ inch. Just like in the smoothies, the milk you can use is your choice. Almond milk is a great option. Then you add in whatever you like. To make an indulgent breakfast, I’ll put in a scoop of chocolate protein powder, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a bit of brown sugar.
You can even keep it simple with just a bit of cinnamon only. Add in banana and berries to get your fruit in. In the morning you stir in any nut butters to make it creamy. Like the above options, stir in some seeds, superfoods, or walnuts for added nutrients.
Put it together the night before, soak it overnight, and when you wake up you can eat it right away, or take it to work and eat it there.

As you can see it is simple to start your day with a quick and easy breakfast that you can take with you. I use breakfast as a sort of health “hack.” I use my morning meal to jump-start my day, as well as my body and mind. Most of the same ingredients can be used for all three of these options. Stock a cupboard with your supplies, and load up on fresh fruits each week. You can alternate these options daily, or even weekly. I’ll do smoothies all week, then the next make a batch of wraps. Do what works best for you, and tailor these options as you see fit.
