5 Recipes That Will Feed A Family For Under 20 Dollars

Macaroni and Cheese Stuffed Shells

Grocery List:

  • 2 cups tomato sauce $1.49
  • 24 jumbo shells $2.49
  • 8 oz macaroni noodles $1.59
  • 3 cups whole milk $1.99
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese $3.19
  • 15 Ritz crackers $4.49

Things Most People Have Already:

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a 13×9 baking dish, use a non-stick cooking spray and then spread tomato sauce evenly along the bottom and set aside.
  3. In a medium skillet, heat your butter. Then add in the flour and stir it until it is combined and has no lumps.
  4. Pour the whole milk in, stirring constantly and allow it to come to a boil.
  5. Remove from the heat, and stir in cheese and salt until smooth.
  6. Add in your cooked macaroni noodles and mix it in so they are completely coated in the cheese mixture.
  7. Now you are ready to assemble your shells!
  8. Take one of the cooked shells and fill it with about 2 tbsp of macaroni and lay it in the baking dish.
  9. Repeat until you have lined the tray.
  10. In a separate small bowl, mix your Ritz crackers with the butter and stir so all the crumbs are lightly coated. Sprinkle over top of the shells.
  11. Bake for 30 minutes, allowing it to get all gooey and delicious, and then serve!
  12. It looks like a very fancy dish, but gives you the comfort that only mac and cheese can provide!
