A Mathematician Just Introduced A Scientific Method For Cutting Bagels Precisely & We Just Had to Try It!

So here's the mathematically correct way to cut a bagel. As Hart explains in his YouTube video, this process requires just a few steps:

Check This Out…

I’m gonna cut in at the end here, and then cut to vertically over here, and then down to horizontally on the inside here. And do the same cut four times, just rotating 180 degrees between each cut. So we start horizontally, and cut vertically, and then down to the inside, rotate 180, start at the same spot, cut vertically, and then horizontally, down to the bottom, turn 180 degrees again, cut in vertically, down to horizontally inside, and one more 180 degree cut, vertically. Now we just have to tease it apart gently and it will separate into two pieces. And there we have it: two equal, linked parts.

Would You Ever Try This?

Hart then recommends placing the cut bagel in the toaster oven and flipping it a few times so it toasts all over. That seems like an awful lot of extra time for just one bagel, and it's difficult to determine if this method yields more surface space to smear cream cheese on. Still, it's a nifty little trick and it wouldn't hurt to try it just once.
