Here's everything you need for these mouthwatering Philly Cheesesteak Calzones. This recipe includes mayonnaise, but you can use any condiment you wish.
Let's Get Started…
Ingredients To Gather:
- 2 pre-made pizza dough from the bakery
- 2 lb rare deli roast beef
- 1 c mozzarella cheese shredded
- 1 c diced onions
- 1 c diced green peppers
- 24 slice provolone cheese
- 1 can(s) sliced mushrooms
- 4 dash(es) olive oil, extra virgin/to drizzle over top of ingredients
- mayonnaise or condiment of your choice
Directions To Follow:
Start by rolling out the pizza dough into a thin square that will cover a baking sheet and then preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray the baking sheet with cooking spray. Place about 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese in a single layer in the center of the dough, followed by another layer of about 1 pound of roast beef. After this, add the onions, mushrooms and green peppers all in a single layer, followed by a layer of provolone cheese (between 12 and 15 slices should suffice.) Next, add salt and pepper and then drizzle olive oil on top. Grab the top edge of the dough and pull it up and over the ingredients, and then do the same thing with the bottom edge. The top and bottom should overlap and meet in the center. Tuck in the ends of the dough on every side to keep the ingredients contained and prevent the cheese from oozing out as it cooks.
Repeat the process with the second sheet of dough so that you have two calzones. (You'll need to allot the ingredients evenly between both calzones.) Place each calzone on the baking sheet with the overlapped side on the bottom. Make three small holes in the top of the dough so that heat can escape during cooking. Lightly brush butter on each calzone and then bake for between 30 and 35 minutes. You'll know it's done when the dough turns a golden brown color.
Finished!
The calzones should be big enough that you can cut each into three generously sized pieces that are satisfying enough for your hungry family or guests. For a little flair, serve these calzones with condiments on the side for dipping.
Enjoy!
