It's SO easy right? Just throw a bunch of things in a pot they said! Turn on the heat and let it simmer, they said! At the end you will have soup!
NOT. Well at least, not in my case! I seem to have some sort of serious mental block against soup. I can't ever seem to comprehend the skill it takes to create a solid, flavorful, delicious bowl of soup.
Sure, there are recipes out there and I have used them. Yet sure enough whenever I crave a truly comforting bowl of tasty soup, it is usually when I am home and kicking back, or sick or just in need of something hot and nice to drink/eat.
The point is, I usually do not have all of the ingredients required for all the recipes out there.
My co-worker used to bring in the BEST soups. She would concoct these incredible stews and brews for her family, then bring in the leftovers to share with her starving, cooking-illiterate, flavor-deprived colleague (me.) As the break room would fill with exotic aromas and heated broth, I would be crying into my PB&J sandwich in secret.
(Although let's be real, PB&J is a classic fave.)
I want to be that person. I want to be able to open my fridge and cabinets and create a spiced, seasoned, nutritious brew, instead of a bowl of hot water filled with random stuff and way too much garlic.
Read on to find out how I was able to finally overcome my hatred for cooking soup!
