Brussels Sprouts With Bourbon & Dijon Are A Favorite Dish This Time Of Year!

I've heard this is a great side dish for any Thanksgiving smorgasbord, but it would definitely go well with a nice filet mignon or grilled chicken dish as well. In other words, don't think this is one of those one-off recipes that you'll end up forgetting about after the first time you use it!

The Ingredients To Gather Up Before You Start Cooking:

  • 4 pounds Brussels sprouts, stem-end very slightly trimmed, and then halved
  • 1/2 pound bacon, 1/4 dice (thick cut would be preferable)
  • ¼ cup whole grain mustard
  • ¼ cup of your favorite bourbon
  • Juice of 1 whole lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

First things first, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Halve the sprouts and prepare them on a baking pan. When the oven's ready, place the pan in for about 5-10 minutes, until the sprouts begin to brown.

Fry up the bacon in a pan, but don't get rid of the grease just yet.

The Simple Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. With a slotted spoon, carefully remove the cooked bacon pieces from the pan to a dish. Keep the bacon fat in the pan.
  2. Add the baked brussels sprouts to the bacon fat, and turn the heat up to medium high.
  3. Cook, while constantly stirring for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the brussels sprouts start to get even more browning on them.
  4. Add the mustard, and cook, stirring for another 30 seconds.
  5. Turn off the heat if you are cooking with gas (bourbon is flammable).
  6. Add the bourbon.
  7. Stir for another 30 seconds.
  8. Turn heat back on to medium high if cooking with gas.

Cook for one more minute, turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice. You can add salt and pepper to taste, but it's not necessary.

Once you're all set, now you can pour yourself a small drink with that bourbon that's been staring at you the whole time! Enjoy!
