
We never really questioned what's inside the can of pumpkin puree we use for pies and other treats. After all, it looks and tastes like pumpkin, so it must be pure, right?

We were as surprised as you are, but the good people at Food and Wine recently discovered that canned pumpkin puree, despite being touted as 100% pure pumpkin, is actually a blend of winter squash including butternut, Golden Delicious, Hubbard and others.
Yuck!
This revelation has really made us rethink how we make pumpkin treats like pies. We assumed if it said it was 100 percent pure pumpkin there was really no question, but now we're wondering what's really inside all the other cans inside our kitchen cabinets.
