If you've never had baked ziti at home before, then you are absolutely going to fall in love with this recipe. Plus, you could very easily double or triple the recipe and freeze most of it to have for dinner at later parts in the month.
Let's Get Started…
Things You Will Need:
- 1 (16 ounce) package dry ziti pasta
- 1 pound mild Italian sausage
- 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 large yellow onion, minced
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 1/2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce, divided
- 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Italian cheese blend
- 1 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
How To Prepare:
-
Cook pasta.
-
Cook sausage. Drain fat. Set aside.
-
Mix ricotta, egg, onion, garlic, pasta, sausage, salt and pepper, pasta sauce and oregano in a large bowl until well combined.
-
Layer pasta mixture, sauce and cheese into a greased baking pan. Cover with foil and bake for twenty minutes. Uncover, return to oven, and let cheese melt for about 10 minutes.
Note: Not a big fan of sausage? You can always replace with beef or vegetables. We really like using the sausage though because it brings an additional level of season with the different meat in the sauce. Combination meat sausage is the best. Pick something with pork and beef in it. Yum!
