This Cutting-Edge Development May Change How We Eat Produce!

In recent years there's been a growing focus on food waste, a major problem all around the world. Tons of spoiled, rotten or otherwise inedible food is tossed every year, simply because it wasn't consumed before it went bad.

Some solutions focus on using leftover food such as that from restaurants before it's too bad to be eaten. But a group of scientists have devised a method that may help keep some foods, namely apples, good longer so that it's less likely to go to waste.

A study recently published in the Physics of Plasmas revealed a major breakthrough in food preservation, using a technique that uses a plasma tool used in hospitals to wipe bacteria off of wounds.

When used to wipe bacteria off of apples, the fruit stayed fresh significantly longer than normal. The researchers are currently researching how to use the technique for other types of produce.
