Maybe you have seen beer can chicken made before and decided to try it yourself. However, when you tried it, maybe it didn't turn out quite right or you struggled with how to get it to rest on the beer can. If you have had these problems, you aren't the only one.
The Steps You Need To Follow To Grill Beer Can Chicken Perfectly Are:
Step 1: Ready the bird
It’s important to make sure that the bird can stand up inside your grill with the lid completely shut, 3-4-pounder works best.
Step 2: Dress
Remove giblets , pat dry with paper towel, rub all over with olive oil. Sprinkle on BBQ spice rub — either something store-bought or DIY-style. For the latter, whisk together Old Bay, chili powder, garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, pepper, cayenne, brown sugar.
Step 3: Prepare
I recommend using a tall boy if your bird's big enough, since it's guaranteed to keep chicken upright, a regular old 12-ouncer is fine, too.
Go with something malt-forward, low in alcohol. Almost any lager, pale or mild, will work.
Poke a few extra holes in the top, toss in garlic cloves, lemon slices, a bay leaf.
Step 4: Position
Bring down over can, slide can inside cavity. The can should be in deep enough that chicken's legs touch down on either side for support. Tuck wings back , secure in place with skewers.
Step 5: Grill
Heat to 300-350 degrees Fahrenheit For gas grill, turn off half burners, for charcoal grill, pile coals up on a single side. Place bird on cooler section of grill. Widen chicken's stance so that its legs form tripod, shut the lid, let it be 75-90 minutes, checking every 10 minutes or so during the last 30 to make sure heat stays at medium-high.
Step 6: Bring her on home
Once your bird reaches an internal temperature of 165 F and 185 F (thigh), it's time to take off fire. Turn off grill, grab tongs, grip base of can, lifting whole thing off grill , onto cutting board.
Slide tongs under chicken's wings, hold base of can using a dish rag or oven mitt, wiggle bird up and off.
Rest chicken 10-15 minutes.
