I Went To Gordon Ramsay’s Famed British Pub & Grill To Sample The Food But It Wasn’t What I Expected…

I went to Gordon Ramsay’s British Pub & Grill on a date, it wasn’t exactly planned that this would be where we would be eating, but I am a sucker for anything he cooks or promotes so I forced my date to buy me dinner since I was on a budget and I knew it was going to be expensive.

She Said She Was Taking Me To Take Me Out But Didn't Say Where So I Picked For The Both Of Us…

It was around 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. One could assume that the place would be booked up because of the name but shockingly the place wasn’t that busy.

We Were Shocked That It Was Slow & Only A Few Waiters Were Working, We Saw Two Running The Entire Restaurant….

The Décor

Everything looked very British. There were Keg’s on the wall and a British Bull Dog, which is Gordon Ramsay’s pet was pictured as the restaurants logo.

The seating was open and there were no booths on-site which takes down the romantic ambiance of a date and makes the entire place feel more causal.

I was hoping for a higher-scale date where we clinked glasses and talked over a $200 dinner but this place was open and the lighting was too bright for my enjoyment.

We Are In Vegas… A Place Like This, Which Is Super Popular, Should Have Had Bigger Booths & Low-Key Lighting!

The Menu

The menu looks like it is made on a newspaper and it is very easy to read and straight to the point. They do not have many vegetarian dishes (I am vegetarian) and absolutely no vegan options.

If you wanted to take out the meat from one dish it would have been tough since all the proteins are kind of the main stars.

The menu looked rationally priced and the prices were not though the roof; although they do have a ton of Gordon Ramsay’s signature drinks to try and those where a little higher-end.

The First Course:

There was the Vegetarian Dish Of The Day which I wanted to try and my date ordered the Fish & Chips since that was the most popular thing on the menu apparently.

The Vegetarian Dish Of The Day

The veggie dish was roasted red bells peppers, mini bella-mushrooms, cauliflower, asparagus stalks and zucchini over a bed of buttered basmati rice.

There was not really that much flavor going on in the dish; personally I thought it could use some spice. The rice must have had some butter and hints of coriander but nothing special. It needed some salt and pepper for sure.

If I Were To Give One Word To Explain This Dish I Would Say That It Was Flavorless.

If I dined at The British Pub again I would not order it since it cost over $25.00 and really did not have a lot on the plate.

Yep; That's Right… My Date Had To Pay $25.00 Plus Tax & Tip For Some Crunchy, Flavorless Veggies.

The dish, overall in my opinion scores a 5 out of 10. It needed some spice or cheese mixed in and for it to not taste so bland and boring.

The Fish & Chips

The Fish & Chips definitely lived up to their popularity. The fish was a tender cod that was cooked to absolute flaky perfection. The batter was light, buttery and not overpowering. There was a definite crunch factor going on and it was absolutely incredible.

One of the things that could be appreciated was the steak fries served with it. They were thick, crispy and seasoned with garlic and black pepper.

The Tartar Sauce, which I ended up having to use for my Vegetarian Dish was really potent with the garlic and lemon. Thankfully, my date does not like Tartar Sauce so I poured it over my depressing vegetables for a kick.

I Really Wish I Could Eat Meat Like A Regular Person Because I Would Have Ordered This!

Next to the Fish & Chips there was an interesting, unconventional side dish, The Green Pea Mashers. They looked just like regular green peas but they were cooked with basil which gave them an unbelievable flavor. It was a nice side dish choice for the Fish & Chips because it was a palate changer.

To score this dish on a 1-10 system with 10 being the best I would say a solid 9 and that is only because I felt there could have been more steak fries.

Overall; there were generous portions, well, expect for the Vegetarian Dish Of The Day, and the flavor was present which is important because that is what you’re paying for.

Dessert

The Dessert which I had to try is one of Gordon Ramsay favorites and my absolute kryptonite. The Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake.

Oh man… how can you ever describe how delicious and moist this cake is? If you want something decadent and full of flavor, then this is the dish for you to try. He serves it at all of his locations and it’s super popular.

On top was a nice scoop of homemade vanilla bean ice cream and almond brioche on the side. My date was on the shyer side but I scarfed that entire dish down and made sure to pour that toffee, caramel sauce all over without hesitation.

I don’t even need to score this dish because it is obviously a solid 10 without arguments.

The Question Remains…

Would I ever go back to the British Pub & Grill again? Eh; probably not.

If I was to go back and just have the Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake yes but overall, not for anything else. It is more of a casual restaurant and if you are dressed up and looking to be romantic it is probably not the best idea since the lighting is bright and you drunks walking right next to you smoking and drinking.

Probably Not The Best Ambiance Or Food I Have Ever Experienced!
