This braised beef recipe uses black rice but if you can't find it or prefer not to use it, you can always use steamed white rice instead. If you want your meal to have even more of a spicy kick to it you can serve it with extra sriracha.
Let's Get Started!
The Ingredients To Gather:
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 3-4 pound boneless top round
- 2 yellow onions
- 8 cups beef broth
- 2 cloves garlic
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sriracha
- 3 tablespoons tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
- 3 cup black rice
- 6 cups water
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 fresh bunch of watercress
The Step By Step Directions To Follow:
- In a pot over high heat add vegetable oil.
- Rub beef top-round with kosher salt.
- Sear beef in pot on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Add onions in the last 5 minutes and let them fry in the fat.
- Add beef broth, bring to simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low. Simmer the beef for 4 hours over lowest heat, flipping the beef half way through to get even cooking.
- Shred the rest of the beef and then add it back to the pot.
- Bring the heat up to medium-high, cook for 15 minutes.
Combine garlic, brown sugar, sriracha, tamari and 1 cup of broth that the beef is cooking in.- Puree until smooth and then add it back to beef.
- Bring the rice to a simmer over medium-high heat and then put a lid on the pot and reduce the heat to low.
