
Here's the most complete list of ingredient substitutions we've ever encountered. This list really does have pretty much everything!
For 1 tsp. of baking powder, simply combine 1/4 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar, and 1/4 tsp. cornstarch.
For 1 cup of bread crumbs, just combine 1 cup of crushed crackers, 1 cup of crushed potato chips, or 1 cup of crushed corn flakes.
For 1 cup of packed brown sugar, combine 1 cup sugar with 1/4 cup light molasses.
For 1 tbsp. of butter, combine 1 tbsp. of vegetable shortening and 1 tbsp. of lard.
For 1 cup of buttermilk, add 1 cup of milk to 1 tsp. of lemon juice or vinegar.
For 1 cup of cake flour, use 1 cup of all-purpose four minus 1 tbsp.
For 1 tbsp. of cornstarch, use 1 tbsp. of all-purpose flour.
For 1 cup of corn syrup, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup water and then heat until it turns into a syrup.
For one egg, use 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, or 1 tbsp. ground flaxseeds combined with 3 tbsp. of water, or 1 tsp. of baking soda combined with 3 tbsp. white vinegar.
For 1 cup of evaporated milk, use 1 cup of half and half, and for 1 cup of half and half, combine 1 cup of whole milk with 1 tbsp. of melted butter.
For 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, combine 2/3 cup whole milk and 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter.
For 1 tsp. lemon juice, substitute 1/4 tsp. apple cider vinegar.
For 1 cup of milk, combine 1/2 cup of evaporated milk with 1/2 cup water.
For 1 cup of self-rising flour, use 1 cup of all-purpose flour combined with 1 tsp. baking powder, or 1/4 tsp. of baking soda with 1/2 tsp. of salt.
For 1 oz. of semi-sweet chocolate, combine 3 tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, 3 tbsp. of sugar, and 1 tbsp. of butter, vegetable oil or shortening.
For 1 cup of sour cream, substitute 1 cup of Greek yogurt.
