Porkolt May Sound Like A Funny Recipe To Make But This Hungarian Stew Has All Of Our Favorites

This stew makes enough for fourteen servings but you can always cut it half if you don't need quite so much. It takes about twenty minutes to prepare and about an hour and a half or so to cook.

The Ingredients To Gather:

  • 5 slices bacon
  • 2  onions
  • 1/4 cup Hungarian paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon  black pepper
  • 5 pounds boneless pork chops
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • 2  cans diced tomatoes
  • 2/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 2 packages  egg noodles

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. Place  bacon in  skillet, cook over medium-high heat  10 minutes.
  2. Drain, reserve  drippings.
  3. Add onions,  cook  until onion is translucent.
  4. Remove skillet from heat, stir  paprika, garlic powder, pepper in.
  5. Transfer to  stockpot.
  6. Heat   drippings in  skillet  over medium-high heat.
  7. Cook  pork chops in batches until  browned on both sides.
  8. Remove to cutting board, blot excess fat off ; cut into bite-sized cubes,  stir into bacon mixture.
  9. Heat  drippings in skillet; cook,  stir  pepper in until softened; drain.
  10. Stir  pepper into  bacon mixture.
  11. Pour  tomatoes,   broth into  stockpot, place  over medium-high heat.
  12. Simmer,  reduce heat to medium-low.
  13. Cook  90 minutes. Stir  sour cream into  stew.
  14. Bring  pot with lightly-salted water to a rolling boil; add  noodles, return to a boil.
  15. Cook uncovered, 5 minutes. Drain.  Ladle stew over noodles.
