Something Horrible Is Killing Off Australia’s Chillies Which Means Bad News To Chili Lovers World-Wide

As website Gizmodo reports, it took a bit of investigating to find the culprit responsible for the massive deaths. What they found suggests that these disease strains are remarkably resilient and can jump between species, which could make the disease even tougher to fight.

Initially the ailment looked a lot like a disease called anthracnose, which manifests itself as a series of black, sunken spots that frequently result in death. But when biologists tested for all known strains that had previously caused the disease in Australia’s chillies, they came up empty. So they expanded their range and identified a series of new pathogens also capable of causing anthracnose.

We certainly like our chillies, so we hope scientists find a way to battle this deadly disease soon! It's just one of many ailments plaguing crops all over the world, so we know researchers are actively seeking ways to better protect the world's valuable food supply!
