The 5-Second-Rule For Dropped Food Does Not Exist; Go Ahead & Eat It – Here’s Why!

Because Nothing Is Better Than Floor Food!

Most of us have heard of the “5-second rule,” that old tale that claims food that has fallen on the floor is still safe to eat as long as it's been on the floor less than five seconds. It's such an old belief that it's thought it dates all the way Genghis Khan!

Many people religiously follow this principle, because accidents inevitably happen and food frequently gets dropped on the floor. Who wants to toss an entire candy bar just because it touched the floor for a couple of seconds?

Well, despite so many people believing in this for so long, one scientist decided to test the theory…and what he discovered was downright shocking! Donald W. Schaffner, a professor and food microbiologist at Rutgers University in New Jersey, conducted a two-year study of the matter and concluded that food that lands on the floor will have bacteria on it, no matter how quickly it's picked up. He published his findings in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, the journal of American Society for Microbiology.

So What In The World Are We Exactly Eating When Food Is Dropped On The Floor & Why Are Scientists Saying That It Is Safe, Even When We Think Is It Gross?
