Ingredients To Gather:
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 (10-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, divided
- 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup frozen chopped onions
- 1 teaspoon steak seasoning (recommended: Montreal)
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 2 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1/4 cup cognac
- 1 (8-ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1 (1.2-ounce) packet brown gravy mix
- Cooked rice, for serving
Directions To Follow:
- Start by combining the beef, 1/4 can mushroom soup, bread crumbs, egg, onions, and steak seasoning in a large bowl and then forming into four oval-shaped patties.
- In a large skillet, heat oil and 1 tbsp. of butter over medium-high heat.
- Add the patties, brown them on both sides, and then place them on a plate. Remove the pan from the heat and add cognac and the rest of the butter, and then saute the mushrooms for between 7 and 8 minutes.
- Next, add the beef stock and then add the gravy by whisking it in. Whisk until the mixture is smooth, and then add the rest of the mushroom soup.
- Put the patties back in the skillet, spoon the gravy on top of them, and then cover and simmer for between 20 and 25 minutes.

We recommend serving this Salisbury steak over hot white rice for a satisfying dinner. However, it also goes well with mashed potatoes, a couple of vegetable side dishes or even a nice dinner salad.
