Here's the list of 10 common foods that could just be deadly! We were surprised by some of the foods on this list, but we're glad we know about them now!
1. Fruit Seeds
Many pits and seeds include prussic acid, which is a form of hydrogen cyanide. This can be toxic if consumed.
2. Rhubarb
Rhubarb leaves contain oxalic acid, which can cause kidney stones. Eating an excessive amount can make you sick and possibly even cause death.
3. Nutmeg
What a trip! That's right, nutmeg is a hallucinogenic that can also cause seizures, convulsions and even psychosis.
4. Potatoes
Potato leaves, stems and sprouts contain glycoalkoloids, which at the least can cause cramping and diarrhea, and at most coma and death. And, you don't even have to consume that much for it to be dangerous.
5. Almonds
This refers to bitter almonds, which contain hydrogen cyanide and can be dangerous even in small amounts such as just 7 to 10 raw almonds.
6. Raw Honey
Raw honey isn't pasteurized, which means potentially dangerous toxins aren't removed. This includes grayanotoxin, which can cause everything from dizziness to vomiting, even if you ingest just 1 tbsp.
7. Tomatoes
Unripened tomatoes — the ones that are still green — can cause stomach upset. Plus, tomato leaves and stems contain alkali poisons that can also agitate your stomach. While you'd have to consume excessive amounts, it's still safest to stay from them altogether.
8. Tuna
Tuna contains mercury, which is especially dangerous to children and pregnant women, and can potentially travel to your brain.
9. Cassava
This tropical vegetable contains cyanide in its leaves and roots.
10. Cashews
You may assume nuts like cashews are raw, but actually they've undergone a steaming process to remove a harmful chemical called urushiol, which is the same culprit in poison ivy.
