This recipe only requires just 15 minutes of prep time and then just pop it in your slow-cooker for 6 hours and you're done. You're going to love it!
Here's everything you need for these luscious ribs. For extra flavor, serve with barbecue sauce…
Ingredients To Gather:
- 2 tablespoons Chinese five spice powder
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt or 2 teaspoons table salt
- 4 pounds spare ribs or baby back ribs
- 1/2 cup water
Directions To Follow:
- Whisk the five spice powder, sugar and salt together in a bowl.
- Cut the rack of ribs into 2 to 3 sections so they'll comfortably fit into your slow cooker. Generously rub the ribs on all sides with the spice blend.
- Pour the water into the slow cooker, then add the ribs. Cook on low for 6 hours.
- (Don't have a slow cooker? Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Place a wire cooling rack on a large rimmed baking sheet so it fits snugly, and place the rubbed ribs on the rack. Bake for 1 hour, then cover the ribs with aluminum foil and bake for 1-2 hours more until the rib meat is very tender and wiggles off the bone).
Next, set the broiler to high and situate the oven rack on the highest rungs. Then, take a wire cooling rack and place it on a rimmed baking sheet. Take the cooked ribs and slice them into individual ribs, and then arrange them on the baking sheet with the meaty side facing up. Broil for between 3 or 4 minutes, or until the ribs get crispy and start to sizzle.
Who knew restaurant-style ribs could be so easy to make at home? Better yet, you can slow-cook these ribs a day ahead to save time. Once they're done, let them cool, then wrap them in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator. When you're ready, bring them to room temperature and cook as described above. So easy!
