This Baked Version Gives Traditional Mac & Cheese A Run for Its Money!

Here's everything you need for this yummy mac and cheese. We can't guarantee there will be any leftovers, but if there are, save for them delicious fried mac and cheese!

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1/2 pound elbow macaroni
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon powdered mustard
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 large egg
  • 12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded

Directions To Follow:

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and then boiling the pasta just until it's al dente. While you're cooking the pasta, melt the butter and then add the flour and mustard using a whisk. Stir it for about 5 minutes and make sure there are no lumps. Next, add the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika and simmer the entire mixture for about 10 minutes. When it's done, take out the bay leaf. Finally, temper in the egg and add 3/4 of the cheese, stirring it in well. Add salt and pepper to taste and add the macaroni by folding it in. Pour all of this into a 2-quart casserole and then top with cheese. Next, add butter to a saute pan and melt, and then toss the bread crumbs so they're coated in the mixture. Use the bread crumbs to top the macaroni and then bake this for 30 minutes.

And you're done! We recommend letting the macaroni and cheese sit for about 5 minutes before serving. This mac and cheese goes well with pretty much any side dish, including salad, a veggie or two, or a hearty meat dish. It's sure to stick to your ribs!
