This Old Fashioned Meaty Sauce Brings Back Some Old-School Ingredients That Give It Extra Flavor!

It may be helpful to add in some salt to the boiling water for the pasta. It adds flavor and helps the pasta noodles cook better. As a rule of thumb, you need to make the water as salty as the sea when you boil pasta.

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather

  • 1/2 lb. mild Italian sausage
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 medium onion, diced small
  • 1 small box crimini (baby bella) mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 medium cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 vine tomatoes (about 1 bunch), diced medium
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon cane sugar
  • your favorite pasta

Step By Step Directions To Follow

1) Cook the sausage until completely brown.

2) In a Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil and butter over medium heat. Once butter is melted, add the onion, lower the heat, and cook about 5 minutes. Add the bell pepper and cook for 3 more minutes. Add the mushrooms, garlic, salt and pepper to taste until everything is soft.

3) Add the tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar and remaining tablespoon of olive oil and bring to a boil. Simmer until the sauce has thickened, about 20 minutes and stir in the sausage.

4) Cook pasta while the sauce simmers.

Finished!

Serve with lots of sauce and sprinkle on some parmesan. There's enough to make 2-4 servings.

Happy Baking & Enjoy!
