Make the sauce: Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Add onions, cook until soft, translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in t remaining ingredients bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover, simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Cool, use immediately, or store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Make the meatloaf: Arrange rack in middle of oven, heat to 400°F. Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with aluminum foil.
Place turkey, 1 cup of barbecue sauce, onion, breadcrumbs, garlic, eggs, salt, pepper in large bowl. Stir until ingredients are well combined. Transfer mixture to the prepared pan, gently press down.
Bake for 30 minutes. Remove pan from oven, reduce the temperature to 350°F. Spread top of the meatloaf with remaining barbecue sauce and bake until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, 35 t0 40 minutes more.
Let meatloaf cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Remove from pan by lifting out the aluminum foil. Drain excess grease. Slice, serve with more warm barbecue sauce if desired.
