Sure, this might not be something you would normally make in your kitchen. But when you're camping and you have a whole site of people to feed, this meal makes perfect sense.
Let's Get Started…
The Ingredients To Gather:
- 2 lbs cubed steak (4-6 pieces)
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1⁄2 teaspoon butter
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (10 ounce) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄2 cup heavy whipping cream or 1⁄2 cup milk
How To Prepare:
- To start, you'll want to cover the steak with the flour, salt, onion and garlic powder, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over your cube steak. You can put all of this into a bag and then shake it up. This helps in evenly distributing the mixture. (Rub or shake either way).
- Next, you'll want to heat up your oil in a large skillet or frying pan. Ass your seasoned cube steak to the oil and fry until brown on both sides, this should take about 15 minutes. Remove steak from pan.
- Remove the oil from the pan, but don't worry about getting rid of all of it. You'll want to save some for your gravy. Add a can of your favorite type of mushroom soup, regular tap water, and heavy whipping cream. Make sure you mix well!
- At this point you can add your cubed steak back to the sauce and let it simmer for about 30 minutes over low heat. Don't forget to turn your steaks at least once during this process.
Finished!
Note: For some, you might want to keep your steaks separate from the gravy as it cooks. This way, your steaks will continue to stay nice and crispy. However, if you do that, you might not want to cook the steak a half hour prior to the gravy.
