Who knew something so simple as a cake could be so controversial? Over the years, we've read dozens of stories about disputes that arose after a bakery refused to fulfill a cake order because they didn't feel comfortable decorating the cake in the manner the customer requested.
The latest controversy came when a woman ordered a “Blue Lives Matter” cake from a Wal-Mart bakery in McDonough, GA just outside of Atlanta.
Three employees at the store refused to decorate the cake, which apparently brought up the sensitive subject of incidents police violence against African Americans, particularly as several such incidents have recently been in the news and sparked protests and even further violence. The cake was for the woman's grandfather's retirement from the police force.
