Want Classic General Tso’s Chicken But With Fewer Calories? We’ve Got You Covered!

Here's everything you need for this Gen. Tso's recipe that tastes as good as it looks. If you're watching your calorie intake, note that the white rice is not included in the calorie count.

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 4 tsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium scallions, chopped
  • 4 Tbsp soy sauce, low sodium
  • 3 Tbsp splenda (or sugar)
  • 3 Tbsp corn starch
  • 1 lbs boneless skinless chicken, cut ino bite size cubes
  • 1.5 C chicken broth, low sodium
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 2 C rice, kept hot – rice not included in calorie counts

Directions To Follow:

Start by using a whisk to combine the broth, cornstarch, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar and ginger. Set this aside and then heat oil over medium-high heat in a wok or large skillet and then add the scallions, garlic and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes and then add the chicken and cook until it's browned all over. This usually takes about 5 minutes. Next, add the sauce you made earlier and simmer the chicken and sauce together until the chicken is completely cooked through and the sauce has thickened. This usually takes about 3 minutes. Finally, serve the chicken over hot white rice.

Wow! We just love how easy this chicken is to make. Your guests will think you ordered takeout from an expensive Chinese restaurant or that you apprenticed to a professional chef. You don't have to tell them if you don't want to, but we recommend letting them in on your little secret so they can be properly impressed with your culinary skills!
