Here are three clever and very unexpected ways to use a plain old tablespoon measure. We'll never look at this simple little kitchen tool in quite the same way again!
1 Peel Ginger
This is so much better than using a paring knife! Just dunk the ginger in water, and then scrape off the skin with one side of a metal tablespoon. This removes only the skin instead of taking chunks of the ginger with it, so it's way less wasteful.
2 Scoop Out Seeds
This is great for cucumbers, squash and similar produce. Just cut them in half, and then use the tablespoon measure to scoop out the insides.
3 Clean a Portobello
We like portobello mushrooms, but we hate those black gills inside that can rub off on other food and give it a rather unsavory looking color. This trick is great — simply run the tablespoon underneath the mushroom and quickly and easily scrape off all of those nasty black gills.
Wow!
Aren't these tablespoon uses ingenious? We're inspired to start looking for other unusual and innovative ways to use our old tablespoons. We may just even find some alternative uses for some of our other kitchen tools.
