We Never Knew Pizza Could Be Made This Way: It Just Might Be The Best Thing Ever Invented!

This amazing recipe makes enough for about four servings but you can double the ingredients if you want more.  It takes about forty minutes to prepare twenty minutes for dough to rise and twenty minutes to bake. Your mouth will be watering before you even try it!

Let's Get Started…

The Ingredients To Gather:

2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 onion
3 cloves garlic
1  can crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon fresh basil, plus additional leaves to top
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon  sugar
1 pound sweet Italian sausage meat
Olive oil, for brushing
10 slices provolone cheese
10 slices mozzarella cheese
1 pound refrigerated pizza dough
Crushed red pepper flakes, to top, optional

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

In  skillet over medium heat, melt  butter. Add in  grated onion, cook until slightly browned. Add in garlic, cook  about 1 minute,  add in  tomatoes, basil, salt, oregano, sugar. Reduce heat to medium-low, simmer until thickened, stirring occasionally, about 25 minutes.
In  separate pan, cook  sausage. Add to prepared tomato sauce, mix well,  set aside.
Liberally brush  insides of 4 small, oven-safe bowls or large ramekins with olive oil. Layer 5 halves of provolone cheese, 5 halves of mozzarella cheese in each bowl. Divide  sauce, sausage mixture evenly amongst  bowls,  set aside.
Lightly flour a flat surface,  place pizza dough on top. Cut into 4 even pieces. Pull,  pinch  edges of dough pieces to the bottom of  dough to create dough balls. Cover loosely with a kitchen towel,  let rise for 20 minutes.
Preheat  oven to 400 degrees F. Brush  outsides of the bowls with oil.
Gently stretch edges of each dough ball to create large, flat disks. Stretch  disks over the bowls to cover the filling, leaving about an inch of dough hanging over the edges. Press  dough along the side of the bowls to seal.
Transfer dough-covered bowls to a baking sheet, leaving plenty of room in between for the dough to expand as it cooks. Bake until golden, about 20 minutes.
Remove Pizza Bowls from the oven,  brush with additional olive oil. Let cool for 2 minutes.
Using pot holders, flip the Pizza Bowls onto plates. Run a spoon between the edge of the bowl and the crust to help release it. Twist, pull out the bowl.  Top with fresh basil and crushed red pepper flakes.

Finished!
