When It Comes To Homemade Desserts Nothing Beats Tiramisu – Find Out How We Upgraded This Italian Classic!

The Italians definitely knew what they were going when they created this dessert. When preparing to make this dessert, make sure you buy the crispy ladyfingers. The soft ones will not do the trick.

Enough Talkin Already… Let's Get Bakeing!

Things You Will Need:

  • 1 tablespoon (1/8 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 3 cups hot brewed coffee

  • 11 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 5 large egg yolks

  • 2 (8-ounce) containers mascarpone cheese

  • 5 large egg whites

  • Kosher salt

  • 3 ounces dark rum, optional

  • 2 (7-ounce) packages crispy ladyfingers (see What to Buy note)

  • 1/4 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder

How To Prepare:

  1. Start out by buttering up your baking dish.
  2. Combine your coffee and sugar (3 tablespoons) in a bowl, then set aside to cool until further notice.
  3. Grab a good size bowl and drop in your egg yolks. You're going to add 4 tablespoons of sugar to your eggs and beat them until you have a pale, creamy look. This should take about two minutes. Then, you are going to add mascarpone to the mix. Keep stirring until all lumps have left you.
  4. In another bowl, whisk egg whites until they are frothy. Add a smidgen of salt and around four tablespoons of sugar.
  5. Fold egg white mixture into egg yolk mixture. If you are using rum, now is the time to pour it in.
  6. Grab the bowl of coffee, now. You are going to be dunking your lady fingers into the coffee and then laying them flat on your baking dish. Spread some mascarpone cream on top and sprinkle cocoa powder over top of that, about two tablespoons.
  7. Repeat once more.
  8. Cover and pop in the fridge for about eight hours before serving.

Finished!

Note: This recipe can definitely be made days in advance for your upcoming party, but keep in mind that the longer it stays in the fridge, the more you compromise the texture of the dish.

Enjoy!
