This Sauce Will Be Your Go To Every Night That You Don't Know What To Make For Dinner.
A good meat sauce on my spaghetti brings me back to my childhood. I loved the sauce more than the pasta, hands down. I was always a team sauce person. Maybe that's because my mom didn't make pasta by hand, but what single mothers do? The sauce was so good that I would sneak a coffee cup and fill it just with the sauce and eat it like soup. I would tell my mom I was just doing ‘quality control' even though I never said she needed to add anything. It was just my way of showing that I absolutely loved every time she made this sauce and I could just not wait a second longer. Confession. Now that I'm an adult, I still do the same thing when I make spaghetti.
My heart twinkled a little when I saw that this recipe called for a jar of marinara sauce as well. My mom did the same exact thing. She would doctor up a jar of sauce to make it her own recipe. You'll see that this recipe included many other ingredients and is not just a glorified jar of sauce.

I love mushrooms BUT not in my spaghetti sauce.
For me…it wouldn’t be a complete spaghetti/Bolognese sauce without mushrooms! Its how I was raised making it I guess! Lots of mushrooms! Lol
recipe is all wriong… frst you make ground round into meatballs.. they simmer in the sauce.. you start with butter and rosemary, then you onions, garlic.. and peppers i use jalapeno’s i like hot, thren I use fesh tomatoes but canned will do an d rest of the recipe. simmer the sauce 4 hours then add meatballs.. it cooks itself.. drain all the grease at top and then use a strainer to get left over bay leaves and etc… you have one better tasty spaghetti dish that will last for days
no green peppers no good use yellow or red .. add rosemary for flavor you will die for after simmering
Check this out @KelleyKilian and see if Karissa likes it!
Is that directed at the word dang good Lori?
yep! you got it!!! better choice of words! profanity is not needed—–especially on a website like this!!!!!!!! 🙂
No self respecting Italian made this recipe or would eat it.
You are correct, there is nothing about this dish that is Italian – starting anything or any recipe with jarred sauce /gravy is huge no no when you can make fresh in 15 minutes….
at least you folks FOUND the recipe. I kept clicking on spots that LOOKED like it would get me to the recipe and went to ad for products. I finally gave up.
Yummy
A real genuine Italian never adds sugar to the sauce. It gives an unnatural flavor.
be careful! someone may correct you and say it’s GRAVY! Ha
NEXT…NEXT…..NEXT
Everyone has their own way of making a sauce, (Gravy if your Italian)!
If I liked the recipe but objected to a shoe being listed as one of the ingredients, then I would simply remove the shoe. I wouldn’t want to eat a shoe so but if the rest of it looked good to me then viola… Freedom and liberty to make it as you like it.

Hi, Is there any chance that you would share your recipe with me.
This really is a Pioneer Woman recipe. You can’t know that until you FINALLY get through all the ads and other crap listed here. I just printed Ree’s recipe. Much easier, much, much easier!
I make mine with crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes and tomato paste. No water added, I use red wine.
Has to be red bell peppers..not green. Different taste.
anxious to try the good stuff made with Love
DO NOT CLICK ON THIS POST – GOT A REALLY SUSPICIOUS FIREWALL MESSAGE AFTER CLICKING THE RECIPE LINK
I did to so backed out of it. I have been commenting on some of the comments tho.
Rob – I use this same logical method in recipes with mushrooms. Works like magic 😉
I guess that’s why my family loves mine…this is how I make it
I’ve heard of it, but won’t add it to my sauce.
YOU MADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE TOO MUCH..
1 jar of store bought sauce? Why bother
Gravy is the real stuff…I make ours for about a day, and the dipping is all part of it…bread and gravy..what more do we need in life 😀
Looked at ingredients and thought, “Not for me”.
preach!
Please don’t scold me for my input. I was raised in an Italian household and this recipe is hard to swallow. A good gravy needs only a certain amount of ingredients to simmer over on a Sunday and the flavors will blend together perfectly. This recipe has a hodgepodge of ingredients that are not what would go into an ideal meat sauce. I see many of you are asking for recipes and I suggest checking out Cooking with Nonna. This page reminds me so much of my grandmother’s cooking and has REAL recipes.
As an Italian, that part of the recipe was just offensive!
Couldn’t agree more.
You’re right.
Sorry but I don’t use jarred stuff in mine and green peppers in spaghetti sauce that’s just gross.
thank you Chrissie, I will look up Cooking with Norma
Filomena Giannini-Grasse I agree with you, no green peppers in spaghetti sauce
I agree with you. I am an ltalian and my mom taught me the good old fashion sauce. But sometimes when I just cook a little for myself I do lick a little onion and green pepper in for a change. I do people wouldn’t call it gravy. This lady’s recipe sounds like gravy. lol☺
I also get recipes from cooking with nonna as some she has my mom did but you know Italians (lol) some things they keep in their head then
when they pass away like my mom l have no recipe. I thank her so much for her recipes and now my brother have a lot of them. She’s a good Nonna.
I agree 100%! My grandmother passed of Alzheimer’s Disease and we had some recipes down but others were on lockdown in here brain.
What’s the point in making your own sauce if you’re going to add a jar of store bought marinara to it??
Whoo does? I don’t .. You ruin the good taste of the sauce.
I agree never put green peppers in spaghetti sauce ever. I have an old italian family recipe and it is delicious with simple ingredients.
if you are making your own homemade marinara sauce WHY would you add a jar of storebought sauce ???
I thought it was going to be from scratch……..my recipe is better and not so busy. 🙂
Not sure about the Traditional Recipe and Soul of Italy but the ingredient of “1 jar Good Store-bought Marinara Sauce, or more” might just make the difference to your liking? Just struck me as a bit funny when I read the recipe. Whatever you like….
they make the recipes too hard to get to, it’s aggravating
Sounds good!!
I make my own marinara sauce. I would never follow a recipe that calls for store bought 😛
TOO MANY DAMN INGREDIENTS!!! Forget it.
