This Traditional Sauce Recipe Brings The Soul Of Italy Right Into Your Kitchen – You Are Going To Love The Authentic Spices & Our Way Of Cooking It – WOW!
This Sauce Will Be Your Go To Every Night That You Don't Know What To Make For Dinner.
A good meat sauce on my spaghetti brings me back to my childhood. I loved the sauce more than the pasta, hands down. I was always a team sauce person. Maybe that's because my mom didn't make pasta by hand, but what single mothers do? The sauce was so good that I would sneak a coffee cup and fill it just with the sauce and eat it like soup. I would tell my mom I was just doing ‘quality control' even though I never said she needed to add anything. It was just my way of showing that I absolutely loved every time she made this sauce and I could just not wait a second longer. Confession. Now that I'm an adult, I still do the same thing when I make spaghetti.
My heart twinkled a little when I saw that this recipe called for a jar of marinara sauce as well. My mom did the same exact thing. She would doctor up a jar of sauce to make it her own recipe. You'll see that this recipe included many other ingredients and is not just a glorified jar of sauce.

I’m full blooded Sicilian and we always use green pepper in our sauce.
We always added peppers to our sauce. It’s very Sicilian.
Italians do use green peppers in their sauce. That’s how my mother and grandmothers taught me.
If you all are from Italian families then look for recipes on that website instead of disagreeing and wanting change to this one
Really everyone has their likes and dislikes why comment just make your own theses are ideas for people who are looking for them ….not to be criticized or given an opinion about their simply giving ther version just look for another recipe instead of being an opinionated ??!!!
My post was meant as a suggestion to help others looking for good recipes. I usually don’t comment on these posts but this recipe is just a mess and has too many ingredients. Vickie Firszt said what we all are thinking. What’s the point of making a homemade sauce and adding a pre-made one? Don’t get upset about these comments, take them as a nice gesture from people who have been cooking sauce their whole lives.
If you’re offended by “dang” then I don’t know how you can browse the Internet at all…
Complicated recipe list.
I use a little long hot pepper in my scallopinni only. It gives it good flavor.

Sounds good!
I agree. I’m not Italian but learned from Italians how to make sauces. Make a real bolognese with beef, pork, and veal if you want meat sauce. Marinara from fresh or canned tomato products is not that difficult either.
Green pepper does not belong in spaghetti sauce, crab cakes, or cole slaw! Period!
Beth Zurick Thank you.
It’s like German Food where I,m from. Different Regi one have their own Recipes. .
Diane Carroll Well I would love an authentic Italian spaghetti sauce recipe, please share!
thank you my fair lady, to each his own…<3
this is like a blog over pasta sauce and find it quite amusing, so am going to my scrabble game laughing all the way…:-)
Very few I Italians say gravy.
Lori are you the post police officer?
Never heard of Thyme in sauce. I put Oregano, parsley and basil. My Calabrian husbands family also put fennel. No ground meat. Meatballs other meats. They actually it hard boiled eggs( big family) delicious.
I think you are right different regions have their own recipes. They are all good.
My grandmother is turning in her grave!!!!!
Jackie simplicity is the best sauce. There are many Italian spaghetti sauces but the easiest one is the “Pomodoro Fresco” You nee: 1 can of san marzano lealed tomatos, garlic, extravergine olive oil, 1 lb spagetti and fresh basil.
Way too many prepared ingredients in this recipe. Marinara sauce? Make your own!
I CLICKED ON THIS AND IT SET OFF MY VIRUS SOFTWARE….
I’m sure this might be tasty, however this has nothing to do with traditional Italian tomato sauce, meat or not..simplicity is the key, as well as good canned San Marzano tomatoes. Less is more, particularly in proper Italian cooking. Jarred marinara as an ingredient? Nooooo
My grandmother is turning in her grave!!!!!
Good grief, cut up an eggplant and throw in if you like it! What difference does it make? Bon appetit
Get a grip people. No one said this was a traditional sauce. How are you going to$#%&!@*about it without trying it. #narrowminds
If you have to add a jar of store bought sauce, why make the sauce at all.
Nothing wrong with green peppers in spaghetti sauce. Everybody thinks they are an expert.
I would NEVER put bay leaves in my SAUCE. There’s too much unnecessary stuff in this recipe.

Don’t Forget To Skim The Foam/Acid As It Cooks
You’re absolutely correct
I’ve been ” doctoring” up my sauce for years. It’s not rocket science, but it’s not authentic Italian either!
I agree! This recipe is so bogus!
Why is this always called “spaghetti sauce”???????????
Lindsay
I’ll have to try this
I made a batch of this sauce & we loved it. I think it was about the best I’ve ever had & definitely will be making it again often~!
No green pepper. Sorry
Filippo Scafidi Thanks gonna try it
Just like home-minus the bell peppers! I have added the bought sauce to the original home gravy I had as growing up in an Italian household. The original gravy from a grandmother from Italy. Meatballs too.
I BEG YOUR PARDON..IT’S NOT GRAVY IT’S SPAGHETTI SAUCE AND IF YOU RAISED WITH AN ITALIAN FAMILY YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
Yummy
