If you either have them for a snack or dinner, fried green tomatoes are yummy and easy. If you haven’t had them before then you are seriously in for a treat!
Ingredients To Gather:
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup self-rising cornmeal mix
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 medium-size, firm green tomatoes, cut into 1/3-inch-thick slices (about 1 1/4 lb.)
- Vegetable Oil
1.Whisk together egg and buttermilk. Combine cornmeal mix, salt, pepper, 1/4 cup flour in a shallow dish. Dredge tomato slices in remaining 1/4 cup flour; dip in egg mixture, and dredge in cornmeal mixture.
2. After you have everything together you can pop the tomatoes on a skillet or throw them in the oven for 15 minutes. A Golden brown color will show when they are finished.
Prepare them as a main dish, a side or as a simple snack for the front of the TV. You will never go hungry with a green tomato, a few ingredients and some simple planning!
