Who would of knew that this little ingredient would really take a regular meat sauce to a level 10?! I have made pasta sauce probably about a hundred times as my career as a mom. The kids love it, it's good for a quick meal and it has good flavor. However, after finding out what the seasoned and experienced chefs add to the pot I was blown away.

A leftover piece of chicken or sparerib adds pizzazz to the sauce… If you don’t have that, chicken boulleon cubes…oh yes and that tsp of sugar of course..

There’s no secret ingredient listed there! Bull-poo. I’ll share some of my secret ingredients in addition to the regular ingredients. Instead of sugar….add brown sugar, put the rind of Parmigiano Reggiano in the sauce while it simmers….ahhh yes! The longer you cook it, the better it tastes. Remove the lid when you are half way through simmering it. If you’re simmering for 4/hours, remove the lid after 2/hours, it will eliminate the condensation and thicken the sauce up. I use a splatter screen after I remove the lid. And always add some red wine. I’ve been cooking for 45 years, I hope someone finds this helpful! Enjoy!
I always make my spaghetti sauce like this minus the basil. I sometimes add Italian sausage or beef kielbasa.

Rosemary Johnson I always add a tablespoon of grape jelly. My sauce gets compliments anytime I serve it.
