A Delicious Pumpkin Bread That is Perfect For Fall

As the temperatures begin to cool and the leaves begin to change their colors we find the smell of pumpkin and spice everywhere we go. The coffee shops are overflowing with pumpkin drinks, pumpkin loafs and every fall spice imaginable.

In recent years there has been a surge of public obsession with all things pumpkin. The beginning of fall has amassed a cult like following and there is no end the number of products that have been created from pumpkin. While some may feel that companies have gone overboard this time of year I feel that the kitchen is one place where there cannot be enough pumpkin and spice flavoring this time of year.

One of my favorite recipes is one I found a few months back. I had to put a pin in it until at least September but now that we are well past the first I feel it is the perfect time to bring it out.

This Pumpkin Chocolate Loaf is a decadent nod to the change of seasons and the ingredients needed to put it all together is fairly simple.

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2/3 cup pumpkin puree canned pumpkin
  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1-2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 tsp espresso powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or nuts optional
