Who knew that fast food restaurants use so many spices and seasonings? If you've ever had Chick-Fil-A and want to replicate the meal to perfection, make sure you use everything on the following list:
Ingredients To Gather:
- 1 -1.5 pounds chicken tenders
- 1 cup dill pickle juice
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon confectioner's sugar
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder*
- ½ teaspoon onion powder*
- ½ teaspoon celery powder*
- oil for cooking
The pickle juice, believe it or not, is what gives Chick-Fil-A chicken its signature flavor. You'll need to marinate the chicken in the pickle juice for about four hours (in a Ziploc in the refrigerator) before getting started. After the juice is soaked in:
-
Remove from back and pat chicken dry with a paper towel.
-
Add egg and milk to a small bowl and beat.
-
Add flour, sugar, paprika, salt, pepper, basil, garlic powder, onion powder and celery powder to another bowl.
-
Add oil to a large skillet or saute pan to ¼ in deep. Heat to medium.
-
Dredge chicken in egg mixture then in flour mixture.
-
Add chicken to hot oil and cook 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown.
-
Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
Now that the chicken has been prepared, it's up to you to put together the sandwich. If you're like me, you'll take advantage of the fact that you can now put on as many pickles as you want instead of having to deal with your server's idea of what “extra pickles” means.
Oh, and I hate to rub it in, but there's a Chick-Fil-A right down the road from me, so I think I'm going to pass up this recipe for now in favor of the real thing!
