Copycat Recipe: Krispy Kreme’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Donut

Copycat Recipe: Krispy Kreme’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Donut

I about fell out of my chair when I found this! Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are one of my all-time favorite candies and to answer your question, yes, I do eat the ridges then eat the middle. I have done it since I was a kid and will not change it anytime soon!

When I was in Bloomington Illinois visiting a friend of mine we stopped at the local Krispy Kreme because…well why not! To my surprise, they had this little treat there so of course, I ordered a couple of them. The deliciousness of this donut cannot be described, only experienced. Before leaving I asked the lovely lady behind the counter if this was a nationwide thing or specific to their region and as it turns out they do not have these in every store! Sure every state may have them but some states have only one store that carries them! I was extremely disappointed to find that my local store does not, in fact, particpate in making this donut from heaven!

After two weeks of being back home and tasting the disappointment when I walked into my Krispy Kreme (okay not really because let's face it that HOT donuts sign makes everything better!) that same friend that I went to visit sent me the following copycat recipe! If she wasn't before, she is now my friend for life! Here is what you will need.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube refrigerated biscuit dough
  • Oil for frying

For the Reese’s Peanut Buttercream filling:

  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk

For the chocolate icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons milk

For the peanut butter drizzle:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

For the topping:

  • Reese’s peanut butter chips
  • Crushed peanuts, for topping

Now let's look at what we are to do with all of this deliciousness!
