Grandma’s Down Home Goulash

Grandma’s Down Home Goulash

I honestly believe that she started teaching us to cook with this recipe because it is so easy it's almost fail-proof. I say almost because in the beginning I somehow managed to ruin a dinner or two so pay attention to how high your temperature is on the stove and make sure you watch the time.

I know there are some out there who are against using jarred sauces so feel free to share your homemade sauce recipes in the comments below. We would love to hear them.  For the rest of you here is what we do with the ingredients.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cook ground beef, onion and garlic over medium high heat until no pink remains. Drain any fat.
  2. Add pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, water, seasonings and green pepper. Simmer covered for 15 minutes.
  3. Add in the in the macaroni and continue to simmer, covered, stirring occasionally until pasta is tender (about 20 minutes).
  4. Top with cheese and replace the lid. Let sit about 5 minutes or until melted.

Yes, it really is that simple! The flavor is amazing and the dish itself can stand on its own or with a side salad and bread. If you're looking for a beer to serve with this hearty meal I would suggest a lager, porter or brown ale would all work just fine!

Now that you have heard our version what is yours? What are some tips and tricks that we can add to make this even better? Let us know in the comments below.
