Perfectly Crispy, Full Of Flavor & An Excellent Dinner Idea: Potato Gratin

Here's that different side dish that will have everyone coming back for more. What more could you ask for?

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • softened butter
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed
  • 3 lbs. red skinned potatoes, peeled (I used about 2 lbs. 10 oz. peeled potatoes)
  • kosher salt
  • pepper
  • fresh thyme sprigs
  • freshly grated nutmeg (optional, but really nice — I forgot to do this)
  • 1.5 cups (or more or less) chicken stock
  • 1.5 cups (or more or less) heavy cream
  • 1 heaping cup (about 2 oz.) grated gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup (less than 1 oz.) grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Rub a gratin dish (typically a 9X13in) with smashed peeled garlic and butter.
  2. Using a knife, cut the potatoes 1/8 in thick and layer then overlapping the slices in the pan. Season with thyme leaves, salt and pepper. LIghtly grate some nutmeg over the top (be sure to go light here) make another layer of the potato slices and season in the same manner. Then moisten with cream and chicken stock. , or milk to the top layer of potatoes. (You can adjust the amount depending on the size pan you are using) Sprinkle the top with the cheeses, and distribute thin shavings of the butter on top. Bake for about 45 minutes to an hour, checking after approx 40 minutes to make sure the potatoes are tender and the top is browned nicely.
  3. You can adjust the temp of the oven to about 375 if necessary.

Finish!

Now all you got to do is watch everyone enjoy these cheesy, creamy potatoes. You will be please with everyone's reaction to this dish! Enjoy!
