Experts are now saying that ketchup is something that we should all try and do away with but what are they saying we should replace it with? According to studies mustard is the better option although this past year Siricha surpassed all as the most popular condiment.
According to Dr. Andrea Middleton, a medical writer at Is It Bad For You.com, mustard is one of the best things you can consume. Most yellow mustard has no fat, no cholesterol, no carbohydrates and basically no sodium.
So what is it about mustard that makes it the best condiment? Well, for starters, it contains Tumeric. This spice gives mustard it's yellow color and contains powerful curcuminoids – one of which is curcumin. The curcumin in Tumeric has major anti-inflammatory effects and functions as a very strong antioxidant.
Mustard also has phytonutrients, that help with digestion, prevent constipation, upset stomach and gastrointestinal cancer. The selenium and magnesium in mustard help to relieve the pain of rheumatism and arthritis, while the B-complex vitamins speed up metabolism.
There are even more benefits to eating mustard/mustard seeds/Tumeric. For example:
- helps prevent gastrointestinal cancer
- helps prevent prostate cancer
- helps prevent asthma
- promotes hair growth
- improves immunity
- aids in weight loss
- lowers cholesterol
- relieves rheumatoid pain
- relieves arthritic pain
- promotes digestion
- may help relieve an upset stomach
- may help prevent constipation

Dump the ketchup
I’m from Chicago and consider possession of ketchup a felony.
Thanks ! big salad fan here
Food police should take a rest. In the scheme of things with thousands homes burning, hundreds of families grieving over loved ones being shot by a lunatic, thousands in hurricane-ridden countries with no water/power/food, that one dime is devoted to ketchup or big gulps makes me wonder.
Right on E.G. And what about new recipes that say cut two potatoes 2 chicken breast and it’s for 4-6 people!
I only use ketchup on grilled cheese or toasted westerns . Wouldn’t put mustard on either unless I wanted to puke .
Too much salt.
