The Horseshoe Sandwich: A Taste Of The Midwest!

The Horseshoe Sandwich: A Taste Of The Midwest!

Once we have all that we need for the sauce let's start preparing it to pour over our sandwich. Here is what you will need to do. Keep in mind that these measurements will render 2 cups of sauce.

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, melt together cheese and butter or margarine over low heat. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, and ground red pepper. Beat together egg yolks and beer. Add the yolk mixture to the saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens and begins to bubble around the edges.

Now that we have the sauce let's look at putting this sandwich together. Here are a couple of other things we will need, this makes 4 servings.

Ingredients for Sandwich

  • recipe Horseshoe Cheese-Beer Sauce (see recipe below)
  • slices bread, toasted (choose from whole wheat, white, or rye)
  • 8 -12 ounces sliced cooked ham
  • Hot french fries (optional)
  • Paprika

Directions

  1. On preheated dinner plates, arrange 2 toast slices each. Top toast with ham slices. Pour a generous amount of Horseshoe Cheese-Beer Sauce over ham.
  2. Encircle each sandwich with hot french fries, if you like. Sprinkle paprika over sauce.
  3. Add garnish if you wish (onions, tomatoes etc)

There you have it. A Horseshoe Sandwich straight from the Midwest. I will say that while I raised an eyebrow to this recipe it was actually quite good. I would recommend trying it if you have not already.
