It seems like every year there's a new so-called superfood that's all the rage. Some are reported to cure everything from fatigue to cancer, while others are known for being packed with an incredible amount of nutrients and vitamins that can enhance both mental and physical health. Well, there's a new contender for this much-coveted role, and it happens to be an unusual and very tiny little fruit that's small but loaded with nutrients.
It's called Wolffia globosa and is also known as Asian watermeal, at between 0.7 to 1.5 millimeters it's no larger than the head of a pin. It's already popular in many Asian countries, where it's served either by itself, kind of like caviar, or added to dishes like omelets. Wolffia globosa comes from an edible species of duckweed and reportedly has a taste similar to watercress. Scientists are excited about it because it's packed with protein and Omega-3 fatty acids.
