What America Can Learn From Italian Cooking

I love America. We are big and loud and so many things that make us great but there is one thing that is missing from a lot of our cuisine and that is this one philosophy: Less Is More.

I am not referring simply to our portion sizes although that is another area of great debate, I am also referring to our need to make things more than what they should be when it comes to food. I mean come on, we have all been there. Sitting at a restaurant and you order a burger and there are so many toppings that the flavor of the burger is lost in the shuffle….again, simplicity is key!

The next thing that they do is invest in their ingredients. Nature has a way of making everything taste amazing yet we try and add things to it or remove things from it through various forms of processing and in the end we have only found more ways to hurt our health. So- invest in that high-quality olive oil and that special garlic that you have always wanted to cook with. Use the ingredients that you know are better and of a higher quality because it will be well worth it.

Italian cooking is about three things freshness, simplicity, and natural flavors. So take your time and let your ingredients shine through your meals!
